Course Overview
A 5 day training course for engineers who want to apply to become a reservoir Supervising Engineer under the Reservoirs Act 1975. The course is also suitable for engineering managers wishing to gain a detailed insight into reservoir supervision and of related procedures and need to understand their responsibilities under the Reservoirs Act 1975.
This course includes evening training, with some nights finishing around 9:30pm. This in an all inclusive, fully residential course.

• The legal framework and statutory procedures.
• Understand the differences between legislation in England/Wales/Northern Ireland and Scotland.
• Appreciation of flood standards.
• The development of dam engineering principles.
• The main principles for designing and constructing dams.
• The specific role and skills of the Supervising Engineer.
• How to recognise potential problems and warning signs on reservoir sites.
• How to devise a monitoring check list for a reservoir survey.
• Safety of personnel carrying out inspections.
• How to carry out a Supervising Engineer's examination and prepare a statement.
What qualifications will you achieve?
• You will receive a Certificate from Dams & Reservoirs Limited.
How is this training delivered?
• Theory is delivered in the classroom. The course will include lectures and discussions by visiting panel engineers and specialist consultants.
• Visits to local reservoirs are included to provide ample opportunity to develop and apply practical supervision skills. Case studies are used to assist the learning process.
What do I need to bring with me?
• Learners should bring a copy of the Reservoirs Act 1975, Floods and Reservoir Safety; An Engineering Guide (ICE) 4th Edition 2015 - ICE and A Guide to the Reservoirs Act 1975 - Defra.
• For the site visit PPE will be required including safety boots, hard hat, waterproof clothing, gloves and glasses.
• Learners can bring with them any materials used in their work, copies of risk assessments or management systems so that they can see how their materials fit in to the context of the training.
